FAQ - Can I set a start and/or end location for resources?

Q. Is it possible to have default start and end locations set up for resources? For instance, if I have a driver who always starts and ends their day at a specific location, can this be shown somewhere, so planners take this into account when using this resource?

A. Yes! It is possible to set the driver profile with a start/end location where the driver typically will begin and end their shift. When setting up the driver profile, there should be a field under the 'General info' panel where the start/end location can be set.

🧰 The location must already be created in the Location section. If the typing the name does not bring it up, search the Locations database to confirm if it's added and that the correct details are being used.

  • If the field does not show in the driver profile, check that the field is active under 'Additional fields'.

Setting a fixed start and end location for a driver

Once switched on, this will set a default departure and arrival point per driver, which Qargo uses when calculating routes on the planning board.

Step 1: Check/Enable the fields

  1. Go to CONFIGURATION > Additional Fields

  2. In the left sidebar, click Resources

  3. Find Start location/End location

  4. Toggle to Active - and optionally Required if you want to enforce it

  5. Click Save

Step 2: Set the location on each driver

  1. Go to RESOURCES > Drivers

  2. Open the driver profile

  3. Find the Start location/End location field, under the 'general info' panel

  4. Search for and select the correct location from your location database

  5. Click Save

Using a start/end location in planning

The fixed start/end location is used only when you drag orders onto a resource on the planning board. It is not applied when using Auto Assign Resources rules or when creating a trip manually from the To Plan list.

📚 If you assign orders by any method other than dragging onto the resource on the planning board, the driver's configured start/end location will not be taken into account.

  • From the planning orders view, drag the order to the driver or combination resource

  • Drivers that have a start/end location set in their profile will generate a pop-up screen to verify the stop activity and location

  • Select the correct stop activity and if needed update the associated location.

    • Locations will default to what is entered on the driver profile.

🧰 Stop actions must first be added under the LOCATIONS > 'Internal stop actions' menu.

  • Click SAVE when the actions and locations are updated.

  • The order will be planned to the resource, including the additional stops in the route planning.
