How can I handle splitting and merging orders or consignments in Qargo?
Managing orders and stops in Qargo often involves tasks like splitting orders, regrouping consignments, or addressing limitations in the software for specific actions. Below is a comprehensive guide to help you effectively handle these scenarios.
Splitting Orders in Qargo
Individual Order Split
You can split orders individually from the Planning screen. Follow these steps:
Locate the order in the Planning screen.
Click the + icon between stops on the order’s route.
Select Split Order from the menu.
Enter the depot details and confirm the split.
Please note, splitting an order after a disconnect (afkoppel) stop is not supported in Qargo. In such cases, unplan the relevant consignments and manually create new trips. Add separate disconnect/attach (ontkoppel/koppel) stops as needed.
Bulk Splitting Orders
Bulk splitting cannot be performed directly from the Planning screen. Instead, use the following workaround:
Navigate to the Orders Page.
Use the Quick Actions to apply a bulk split order.
These steps enable efficient splitting for larger sets of orders.
Merging Consignments into a Single Order
If your order shows as two or more consignments, you can regroup them without creating a new order:
Go to the Planning Tab and open the list of Orders to Plan.
Select all the consignments from the affected order.
Create a New Trip with the selected consignments.
Drag the trip back to the Orders to Plan list to unplan and consolidate the consignments.
💡 Note: The "Merge Orders on 1 Trip" option is not available for orders that have already been created.
This workflow ensures the order can be handled as a single shipment.
Plan on separate trip
Use this option when multiple consignments appear on an order, but a single consignment needs to be delivered separately, or 'Split off' from the main order.
Steps to separate consignment
From the order details, navigate to the 'Execution Panel'
Click on the stop icon for the stop that needs to be separated
A new modal will pop up. Next to the location details is a menu which shows 3 options:
Plan on separate trip
Do not dispatch activity
Block order
Click on 'plan on separate trip' will automatically remove the consignment to a separate route.
The other option is to expand route completely by clicking the +
The route expands with additional information, including stop details.
This will show the individual stop details. Use the menu to the right side, as detailed above.
Merging Two Trips
To merge two trips into a single continuous trip, follow these steps:
Locate the parking decouple/couple - Depot load/unload or similar that is splitting the trip flow.
Remove the parking/depot stop.
Once removed, the trips will automatically consolidate into one continuous trip.
This merging method applies only if the trips are separated by a split order stop type. Ensure that any resource allocations (e.g., drivers, vehicles) are fully compatible before combining.
Combining Trip Times for Pricing Calculations
In situations where you need to sum the drive times of multiple drivers under a single pricing calculation, note the following constraints and steps:
Qargo does not support summing drive time across separate orders.
To include multiple drivers’ time in one calculation, you need to split an order into multiple trips as follows:
Add a "decouple/couple" order split between the pickup and the first delivery. This ensures the order contains two separate trips.
Assign different drivers to each trip if necessary.
The system will calculate the trip durations independently but within the same order framework, excluding idle or waiting times between decoupling and re-coupling actions.
This ensures driver hours are recognized and included accurately in pricing computations.
Special Considerations
Trip Merging Dependencies: Only trips separated by parking/depot or stop-end day stops can be merged, and resource allocations (e.g., drivers, vehicles) must be compatible before consolidating. Ensure all adjustments align with planned schedules.
Splitting at the End of the Timeline: You cannot split an order at the very end of the day or between timeline periods. Splits must occur between two consignments at the logical point in the timeline where division is needed.
Bulk Splitting Alternative for Depots: While bulk splitting is unavailable on the Planning screen, the Orders page provides this functionality via Quick Actions.
Quick Reference: Do’s and Don’ts
Do:
Use the Orders Page for bulk order splits via Quick Actions.
Use the Planning screen for individual order splits.
Regroup consignments on the Planboard to consolidate orders.
Don’t:
Attempt to split orders after a disconnect stop.
Split orders at the very end of the timeline.
Expect bulk splitting functionality from the Planning screen.
By following these guidelines, you can effectively manage splitting and merging orders within Qargo, ensuring seamless operations and optimal use of the tools available.
