Samsara provides different solutions for fleet management and can be used within Qargo as an integrated telematics solution.
Summary Table of Supported Functions
Function | Supported | Notes |
Position Tracking | Yes | Live truck and/or trailer locations in Qargo |
Mobile App Linking | Yes | Qargo ↔ Samsara driver app |
Temperature Monitoring | Yes | Monitoring only, not configuration |
Fuel level (%) | Yes | Monitoring only |
Mileage | Yes | Monitoring only |
FMS Dispatch/Sync* *Extra permissions from Samsara required. | Yes | Route dispatch, stop status sync, templating, address/geofence mapping |
Question paths on dispatch. | Yes | Sync driver response on stop activity |
Position Tracking:
The primary function supported by the Samsara integration is real-time position tracking of resources, including trailers.
Mobile app linking:
The integration supports linking between the Samsara Driver App and the Qargo Driver App. Drivers can navigate seamlessly between the two applications, which facilitates workflows that span both platforms.
Configuration for this feature requires setup on both the Qargo and Samsara sides; link to Qargo from 'Jobs' in Samsara driver app.
Temperature Monitoring
Temperature monitoring for trailers is supported in a read-only capacity. Toggle permission on in the Integration setup.
Display temperature data sourced from Samsara sensors - particularly useful for refrigerated transport.
Configuration of temperature sensors and advanced temperature management features must be handled directly within Samsara.
Requires additional API permissions to access this data, specifically “Write Sensors” and “Read Trailers”
FMS Dispatch & Stop Status Sync
Creating, updating, and deleting routes, as well as polling route feeds for status updates. The integration maps Qargo trip and stop IDs to Samsara external IDs for robust synchronisation
Dispatch trips/routes directly from Qargo to Samsara.
Automatically synchronise stop statuses (such as arrivals, departures, and completions) back from Samsara to Qargo.
Template route and stop names/notes, and manage address/geofence data for stops.
Use polling to keep Qargo updated with stop and route changes from Samsara, including support for various stop state transitions (scheduled, en route, arrived, departed, skipped, etc).
Fuel Level (%)
Fuel level monitoring is supported in a read-only capacity.
Display fuel level data sourced from Samsara providing values are available for the asset.
Once integration is enabled and the vehicles linked, using the Samsara ID Qargo can retrieve telemetry for the resource
Where available, data is displayed in the Planning board
Mileage
Mileage monitoring is supported in a read-only capacity.
Displays mileage data sourced from Samsara providing values are available for the asset.
Separate from the live telemetry, it is possible to store 'actual distance' on trips and enter mileage manually at a stop if needed.
This does not transfer back to Samsara.
Dispatch Question Paths (Qargo Admin only)
Question paths can be created within the Samsara platform that can then be mapped back to Qargo.
Template forms are created in the Samsara platforms and these are mapped to the Samsara Integration within Qargo (Qargo Admin)
On dispatch, forms with the required stop details that the driver is required to capture, are sent to the Samsara device.
As the driver completes the stop details the information is synced back into Qargo.
Key Benefits
Reduced Manual Data Entry: Driver responses flow directly into Qargo workflows without manual input.
Better Operational Accuracy: Question paths reflect the exact set of tasks and data collection steps required at each stop.
Improved Compliance & Documentation: Form submissions ensure consistent completion of required checks and validations across all route activities.
Enhanced Integration Reliability: Stable field IDs and automated mapping reduce risk of misalignment between systems.
💬 Contact your Qargo Account Manager or Qargo Support if you would like to setup this feature.
CONFIGURATION:
Navigate to CONFIGURATION > Integrations
Click 'Add new integration' and select 'Samsara' from the drop down options
Set the integration 'ACTIVE'
Enable the configuration toggles, make sure 'FMS Enabled' is toggle on.
Configure 'Stop Activity' requires a label - enter 'not_in_use' - this is not required by Samsara.
Create a DISPATCH TASK to dispatch to vehicle or driver (cannot dispatch to both)
Once the dispatch task is created, edit the template if required:
Enable Samsara field in the resource so the Resource ID can be added. Add the name and click SAVE.
This will update with the Samsara ID and provide the link between Qargo resource and Samsara.
If there is no corresponding resource name in Samsara, and error will show
